Instructions for Windows

Instructions for Windows Vista (in brief)

  • There is Wi-Fi coverage in most areas of the university.
  • Click on Start -> Connect To -> Set up a connection or network.
  • On the window that opens choose Manually connect to a wireless network and then Next.
  • Insert the following:
    • Network name: AUEB-Wireless
    • Security type: WPA-Enterprise
    • Encryption Type: TKIP.
    • Leave Security Key/Passphrase blank.
    • Check Start this connection automatically
  • Click on Next and select Change connection settings.
  • On the windows that opens select the Security tab, select Protected EAP (PEAP) in the network authentication method and press Settings.
  • Uncheck Validate server certificate
  • Make sure that in Select Authentication Method the option Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) is checked, and click the Configure button.
  • Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password.
  • Click OK in all open configuration windows.
  • After a few seconds, down and right on your screen you will see the message "Additional information is required to connect to AUEB-Wireless."
  • Clicking on it, a new window appears; enter the following:
User name: aueb
Password: wireless
Logon domain remains empty
  • Click OK
  • Your computer is connected to AUEB-Wireless, but still there is no connection to Internet.
  • In order to gain access to any service you should start a Web browser (like Internet Explorer or Firefox).
  • In Security Alert that follows click Yes. Now you should see the Authentication form.
  • In that form give your username and your password
  • Finally click on Login.

Sort Instructions for Windows XP

  • Assure that the wireless card of your computer is enabled (it is usually being enabled by a button and it is indicated by a light).
  • Enable Wireless Zero Configuration of Windows (if it is not already enabled). Right click at My Computer and choose Manage. At the window that opens double click on Services and Applications, and click on Services. At the right part of your window double click on Wireless Zero Configuration. At the window that opens press Start (bellow the Service status), continuing press OK.
  • At the Desktop of Windows right click on the icon My Network Places, choose Properties, right click on the icon Wireless Network Connection, and choose Properties.
  • At the window that opens double click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), choose Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically, and press OK.
  • Choose the Wireless Networks tab and click on the button Add (if AUEB-Wireless already exists at Preferred networks, just double click on it instead of clicking Add).
  • At Network name (SSID) type .AUEB-Wireless., at Network Authedication field type .WPA., and at Data Encryption choose TKIP.
  • At the same window choose the Authedication tab, and at EAP type choose the Protected EAP(PEAP), and uncheck the two Authedicate as that follow.
  • Press the button Properties of the EAP type, and uncheck Validate server certificate.
  • Make sure that at Select Authedication Method the Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) is checked, and press the button Configure.
  • Uncheck the Automatically use my Windows logon name and password. Press OK at all open configuration windows.
  • After a few seconds appears the message Click here to select a certificate, on the taskbar. If you click on it a window appears where you type the following:
User name: aueb
Password: wireless
Logon domain remains empty
  • Your computer is now connected at AUEB-Wireless but it has no access to the internet yet. You should open a web browser first so as you can have access at any internet service.
  • At the Security Alert that appears click Yes.
  • The user authedication form appears. At this form type the same Username and the Password that you use for the services of the e-mail and the dial-up of the University, and click LOGIN.
  • If your Login-name/password has been inserted correctly, your computer will access the internet after a few seconds.
