The European Commission funded (FP7) research project "PURSUIT: Publish Subscribe Internet Technology" received the "Future Internet Award" at the Future Internet Assembly (FIA) in Dublin, Ireland (May 10, 2013), for its outstanding contribution to redefining the Internet architecture in order to ensure users' stronger control over their data while enhancing broadband access.

The "PURSUIT" project paved the way to an innovative future Internet architecture meeting the growing traffic and security demands by designing, developing, prototyping, and experimenting with a new Information-Centric Networking technology.

The two and a half year project, completed in February 2013, brought together researchers from academia and industry from Finland, Germany, Greece and the UK, all aiming towards an improved future Internet focusing on the content and information rather than interacting with specific computers or the location where the information is stored.

The project partner from AUEB is the Mobile Multimedia Laboratory in the Department of Informatics and it involved faculty members George C. Polyzos, George Xylomenos, Vasilios A. Siris and Giannis Marias, postdoctoral researchers Christopher Ververidis and Konstantinos Katsaros, and Ph.D. candidates Nikos Fotiou, Christos Tsilopoulos, Xenofon Vasilakos, Charilaos Stais, Ioannis Thomas and Alexandros Kostopoulos.

This is the second time that the "Future Internet Award" goes to a project with a partner from AUEB; the (FP7) Trilogy project received the same award in 2011:
