The ACM Student Chapter of Athens University of Economics and Business in the XRDS international student magazine for computing

photo

The ACM Student Chapter of Athens University of Economics and Business is referred in the current issue of XRDS - The ACM Magazine for Students, an international magazine for students interesting in computing. XRDS is published and distributed by ACM to its members around the world and aims to promote modern computing in students. It has been in press since 1994 and publishes four issues per year.

In the Winter 2010 issue, XRDS hosts the local chapter of our University, presenting the buddy system, one of its current activities. In the buddy system younger students are paired with older students based on similar interests and hobbies. Through this relation the older student can help, advise and mentor the younger one on educational and professional issues.

The chapter invites university students, from all Departments, with some interest in modern computing and informatics to participate in this activity.

ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) is one of the world?s largest educational and scientific computing societies, delivering resources that advance computing as a science and a profession. ACM provides the computing field's premier Digital Library and serves its members and the computing profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources. Its membership is more than 92,000 as of 2009.

ACM is organized into over 170 local chapters and 35 Special Interest Groups (SIGs), through which it conducts most of its activities. Additionally, there are over 500 college and university chapters (Student Chapters). Chapters are the "local neighborhoods" of ACM. The Professional and Student chapters worldwide serve as nodes of activity for ACM members and the computing community at large, offering seminars, lectures, and the opportunity to meet peers and experts in many fields of interest. Student chapters are founded and organised exclusively by students.
